Frequently Asked Questions

Do you take beginners?

Most definitely. We all have to start somewhere!

What should I wear?

Any comfortable clothing (not your best clothing).
For example a cheap white T-Shirt and tracksuit bottoms would be ideal.

Do you use special training equipment?

Our techniques focus on hand-to-hand combat. Advanced techniques also deal with knife attacks and stick fighting (Hanbo).
Protective garments and equipment are allowed as long as their use is not harmful to other students.
Common equipment includes grappling gloves and groin guards.

How much does Ju-Jitsu training cost?

The first session is free.
Refer to the schedule of fees for more details.
The Bushido Ju-Jitsu Academy is a non-profit organisation.

Where do you hold training sessions?

Please refer to the Dojo locations pages for more information.

When and at what time do you train?

Please refer to the training schedule.

How often should I train?

We organise lessons twice to three times a week.
You should ideally attend a training session once a week to gradually improve.
If you can train twice a week and attend the odd course (which are fun) you will obviously progress quicker.
By progress we do not mean just obtaining a higher belt, but actually improving physical resilience, getting better at performing Ju-Jitsu techniques and gaining a better understanding of what Ju-Jitsu is all about.
We understand if you miss sessions, we all have work and family commitments plus other interests.

Is Ju-Jitsu good for self-defence?

Definitely YES!
As well as incorporating very effective techniques Ju-Jitsu encourages awareness and confidence - crucial elements in personal safety.

Is Ju-Jitsu any good as a Martial Art?

As a classical art it is unequalled.
It allows you to deal with punches, kicks, grappling, weapon attacks and many other forms of combat.

Is it suitable for anyone?

YES!
We have both male and female members. We have a junior class for 9 to 15 year olds.
Our senior class has an age range from 16 to 50 years old.

Do I have to be fit?

No, but training will help you get fit.
We do require applicants to do a medical check-up guaranteeing their good health and ability to do physicial exercise without harming themselves or others. We don't do hundreds of sit-ups and push-ups but it is a physical activity.
The important thing is that everyone works at his or her own pace.

What makes your club and style of Ju-Jitsu different to others?

We cannot compare the clubs, styles or Martial Arts available. Our syllabus focuses on effective self-defence techniques.
At the Bushido Ju-Jitsu Adamey we are proud to provide practical good quality instruction with the minimum financial burden.
We train in a friendly and enjoyable environment. It is easier to learn when you are having fun.
We advocate and demand mutual respect from all members. We have a grade structure on the mat but as people we are all equal!

Can you tell me more about the Bushido Ju-Jitsu Academy?

Please refer to the Ju-Jitsu in Malta section.

Can you tell me more about Ju-Jitsu?

Please refer to the Art of Ju-Jitsu section.

How do I apply a particular technique?

For a quick hint, please refer to the archives section, where we also explain how to tie your 'obi' properly.
In reality though, there is little chance you will learn how to carry out any technique on your own.
The best place to practice martial arts is in a safe and controlled environment like a Dojo, where trained professionals can provide you with the best instruction.
