For those who are solely interested in learning how to protect them selves from
any form of physical abuse and aggression but do not want to become hardcore
dedicated Ju-Jitsukas the BJJA has developed a different school that teaches
a simple, practical and effective system of Self Protection involving an eclectic
blend of Stick and Knife Fighting with Unarmed Combat techniques. Students learn
how the same movements used to wield a stick or knife may also be used empty
handed to block or attack. Likewise these same techniques may be used to turn
an everyday common object into an improvised weapon.
One of the core principles of this system of Self Protection is that nobody is obliged to defend his/herself empty handed especially under extreme threats of aggression. This is highly relevant in cases where the victim is set upon by multiple attackers or in the case of females or elderly citizens.
Learning is not based on patterns or rigid strict forms and methods of practise. There are no complicated and complex moves to be learnt. Techniques are based on instinctive body reactions individual strengths and characteristics. The method of teaching and practise is intended not only to shorten the students' learning curve but to ensure that what is learnt is not forgotten under the confusion and stress of an actual aggression.
Lessons are conducted in a disciplined but informal manner with intent. Students learn simple techniques and every individual is encouraged to express his/her own instinctive manner of execution. The student is encouraged to be creative rather then replicate step by step what is shown by the Instructor. Training is varied and interesting. A lot of emphasis is placed on flexibility, movement and breathing. In these classes movement is KEY.
Private classes on a one to one customised basis may also be arranged. Specific Self Protection training to cover specific needs may also be organised for small groups.
